Appling Healthcare reports one COVID-19 related death at their geriatric Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) and three additional deaths at the Appling Nursing and Rehabilitation Pavilion. This brings the total deaths at the nursing home to five.
The BHU, which is attached to the main hospital, also has three confirmed cases of COVID-19 among its patients.
At the Pavilion nursing home, the COVID-19 tests administered to the remaining 64 residents are still pending with the Georgia Department of Public Health.
As of today, April 27, 2020, a total of 26 Pavilion nursing home employees and five hospital employees have tested positive, with several tests pending. As we previously stated, all decisions on testing at the nursing home and hospital are made by the GDPH.
The National Guard returned to the nursing home this past Friday to provide additional sanitation and infection control procedures. They will return this Thursday for additional cleaning.
“Our thoughts, prayers and heartfelt condolences are with the loved ones of those residents who have passed away from this virus,” said Appling Healthcare CEO Randy Crawford. “We will continue to work tirelessly to try and prevent it from spreading further through our facilities. Our employees are putting in long hours and making heroic efforts on the front lines of this battle to ensure our patients are receiving the absolute best care possible.”
Crawford added his sincere gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community. “The many donations, uplifting messages and ongoing prayers are exactly what we need right now,” he said.
