Appling Healthcare Completes Major Radiology Upgrade

Appling Healthcare is proud to announce the completion of a significant radiology department
upgrade, strengthening diagnostic services for patients across Appling County and surrounding
communities.
The project includes the installation of a new Canon CT scanner, the upgrade of the hospital’s
second X-ray room with brand-new imaging equipment, and the launch of Nuance PowerShare,
a secure medical image-sharing platform that enhances coordination of care across healthcare
providers.
Together, these improvements represent one of the most substantial radiology advancements at
Appling Healthcare in recent years.

Advanced Imaging, Close to Home

The new Canon CT system delivers improved image clarity, faster scan times, and greater
diagnostic precision. CT imaging plays a vital role in diagnosing strokes, traumatic injuries,
cancers, internal bleeding, and other critical conditions.
In addition to the CT installation, Appling Healthcare has upgraded its second X-ray room with
new, modern imaging equipment. The new system enhances image quality, improves workflow
efficiency, and ensures greater reliability for both inpatient and outpatient services.
Both the CT scanner and the upgraded X-ray equipment were funded through generous
contributions to the Georgia HEART Hospital Program, allowing local taxpayers to redirect a
portion of their state income tax dollars to support rural hospitals at no additional cost.

In addition to upgraded imaging equipment, Appling Healthcare has implemented Nuance
PowerShare, a secure digital platform that significantly improves how imaging is shared and
accessed.
PowerShare allows medical images to be transmitted electronically and securely to referring
providers, specialists, and partnering facilities — often within minutes. This technology

eliminates the need for physical CDs, reduces delays in care, minimizes unnecessary repeat
scans, and enhances communication between care teams.
For patients, this means smoother transitions between providers and faster access to
specialized consultations when needed. For providers, it enables quicker collaboration and
more informed decision-making — particularly in time-sensitive or complex cases.
By integrating advanced imaging technology with modern connectivity, Appling Healthcare is not
only upgrading equipment, but also transforming the way care is coordinated.
